Straight answers from our watchmakers on servicing, water resistance, batteries, shipping and care.

Estimates, shipping & warranty

Will I receive an estimate before work begins?

Yes. Every watch gets a full diagnostic first, and we send a detailed estimate. Nothing proceeds until you approve it.

Is it safe to ship my watch to you?

Yes. Mail-in service is available, and we can give you packaging guidance. Include the matching watch or jewellery repair form in the package.

Is my watch insured during return shipping?

Yes. We offer insured, tracked return shipping. It is free with every complete service; for other work, return shipping is added to your estimate.

How will I know where my repair is?

Within 24 hours of receiving your piece, we log it and email you a private tracking link. No account is needed, and you can message our team from that page.

Do you offer express or rush service?

For select services such as battery replacement, resealing and polishing, often yes. Contact us before sending so we can confirm timing.

What warranty do you provide on your work?

All repairs and services carry a 12-month service guarantee.

Servicing & maintenance

How often should a mechanical watch be serviced?

Generally every four to six years, depending on how and where it's worn.

How do I know if my watch needs a full service?

Signs include poor timekeeping, stopping intermittently, moisture or contamination. We evaluate the watch before recommending anything.

Can a watch be over-serviced?

Yes. Unnecessary or frequent disassembly causes wear, so service should follow the watch's condition, not its age alone.

Why does my watch gain or lose time even after servicing?

Temperature, position and how you wear it all affect accuracy, and small variations are normal. We offer fine regulation if needed.

Is it normal for a watch to run differently after a service?

Yes. Accuracy usually settles within a few weeks as the fresh lubricants settle.

Does leaving my watch stopped damage it?

Not directly, but oils can settle over time. If it has sat for years, have it checked before wearing it daily again.

Is it bad to wind an automatic watch by hand?

No. Manual winding is safe and is often a good idea after the watch hasn't been worn for a while.

Why does my watch stop when I'm not wearing it?

Automatic watches need motion to stay wound. A watch winder can help keep it running.

Are watch winders necessary?

Not required, but useful for complications such as calendars or moon phases once they're set correctly.

Can extreme temperatures affect my watch?

Yes. Heat degrades lubricants and cold reduces accuracy. Keep your watch within normal temperatures.

Can magnets really affect my watch?

Yes. Phones, speakers and similar devices can magnetize a movement and throw off accuracy. Demagnetizing is quick.

Why does my watch sound different when I shake it?

You'll normally hear the rotor move. A sudden change in that sound should be inspected for loose parts.

Is it safe to play sports with an automatic watch?

High-impact activity can affect accuracy. A quartz or purpose-built sports watch is the better choice.

Water resistance

Is my watch safe to swim with?

Only if it's rated and tested for water resistance. Have it evaluated before you swim with it.

Why is there fog under the crystal?

Moisture has entered the case. Send it in promptly so it can be dried, cleaned and resealed.

Does water resistance last forever?

No. Gaskets age, so test it regularly, especially before water exposure.

Do you pressure test after a battery replacement?

Yes. We strongly recommend pressure testing and resealing water-resistant watches after a battery change.

Can I swim with a vintage watch?

Generally no. Older watches rarely keep their original water resistance. We can assess yours.

Is it safe to shower with my watch?

Steam, soap and temperature changes can affect even water-resistant watches. We recommend taking it off.

Why does my watch fog only sometimes?

Intermittent fogging usually means a gasket is failing. Have it fixed promptly.

Batteries & quartz

My quartz watch stopped. Does it need a full service?

Usually a battery is enough. We test the watch first and only recommend more work if it's needed.

How long does a watch battery last?

Typically one to three years, depending on the watch. Replace it before it runs out completely.

Why does my quartz watch jump two seconds at a time?

That's the low-battery warning. Replace the battery soon.

Setting & care

How do I set the time on my watch?

It depends on the movement. Never force the crown. If you're unsure, bring it in and we'll show you.

How should I set the date?

Avoid changing the date during the overnight changeover window. If you're unsure, send the watch in.

Why shouldn't I change the date at night?

The date mechanism is engaged overnight, and changing it then can damage the gears. Set the time first, outside that window.

Do luxury watches need different care?

Yes. They require manufacturer-specific tools, parts and procedures.

Repairs, crystals & restoration

Can you replace a scratched or damaged crystal?

Yes, with genuine or high-quality replacements suited to your watch.

Can a cracked crystal still protect my watch?

No. Even a small crack breaks the seal. Replace it right away.

Do you restore vintage or heirloom watches?

Yes. Restoration is a core specialty, focused on keeping the watch original while restoring function.

Can old watches be serviced if parts are no longer made?

Often, yes. We source original parts, fabricate them, or adapt a solution.

Can I request polishing only?

Yes. Polishing and refinishing are available on their own, in person or by mail.

Is polishing bad for my watch's value?

Excessive or careless polishing can reduce originality. Careful, professional polishing can improve appearance without that loss.

Do you service high-end luxury watches?

Yes, to manufacturer standards. We are an authorized service centre for Cartier and other brands.

Which brands do you service?

Most Swiss and international brands, including luxury, independent and vintage pieces. Contact us to confirm your brand.

Can you replace straps or bracelets?

Yes, from our stock or by sourcing originals, fitted in-house or by mail.

Authenticity, appraisals & engraving

How can I verify the authenticity of my watch?

Our watchmakers inspect the movement, case and serial numbers. A written certificate is available on request.

Do you provide watch appraisals?

Yes, with detailed documentation suitable for insurance and estate purposes.

Do you offer engraving?

Yes. We laser engrave case backs and clasps, with drop-off or mail-in options.
